Relations with the European Explorers

The first Europeans that the Cherokee Tribe had ever seen were members of Hernando de Soto's expeditions. As the European countries kept coming to the new world throughout the 17th century, they constantly tresspassing on Cherokee land. Because the Tribe often saw these europeans, they accuired guns and other weapons through trade (Birchfield) . 
 
During the French-Indian war, the British allied with the Cherokees, however, soon after the war ended with the French, the Cherokees engaged in a war with the British, resulting in the signing of a peace treaty in 1761 (Birchfield).
